Submarine Fiber Solutions

Nexans Norway’s optical-fiber submarine cables are designed for both unrepeatered and repeatered systems and have almost unlimited capacity over long distances. Nexans Norway has a solid technology base, gained from completing more than two hundred projects worldwide and has provided more than 25.000 km cable in total. Nexans Norway cables are used for several applications: linking islands, countries, continents, between platforms, FPSOs and across and along fjords and rivers.

ROC-2 the world

ROC-2 the worldNexans Norway has with its newest invention, Repeatered Optical Cable, ROC-2, positioned the company as a premium partner within the submarine telecommunication industry.

The new ROC-2 cable can connect continents with up to 12 fibers at water depths down to 8.000 meters. One fibre can transmit several terabits per second. This means that with ROC-2 more than 2 billion people can communicate simultaneously.

With its unique vault design, ROC-2 meets industry standards and is designed to withstand the requirements for transoceanic FO cables. The ROC-2 armouring range is designed to fit any sea bed conditions. To feed the repeater system, up to 10 kV can be applied to the cable with a resistance of 1 Ohm/km.

ROC-2 is built on experience gained from ROC-1, which is successfully installed and in operation between Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname and Guyana, see film to the right.

The cable has undergone extensive testing, and the complete range of ROC-2 cables are Universal Joint Consortium qualified.

The ROC-2 cable can also be used for  feeding power and telecom control signals for Oil & Gas installations.

URC-1The URC-1 family of optical-fiber submarine cables have been in production since 1995 and has a history of no failures in design, materials and workmanship. It is
designed specifically for communication distances up to 500 km.

The URC-1 range is specifically designed for unrepeatered systems offering highways for services like telephony, data, video and broadcasting.

The URC-1 cable design is based on a laser welded steel tube containing the optical fibers which are embedded in jelly in a way that makes all fibers stress free, ensuring a long life time. For mechanical protection the cables may be equipped with a large variety of outer steel armour protections.
