The new ALSECURE® PREMIUM makes installation faster and easier thanks to enhanced flexibility, strippability and resistance

Paris, July 6 2009 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has further extended its ALSECURE® range of fire-safe building cables with the launch of the new fire resistant ALSECURE® PREMIUM cables that offer additional time and cost saving advantages during installation, including: high flexibility, easy strippability and exceptional strength.
ALSECURE® PREMIUM cables are part of the general ALSECURE® range. It has been developed by Nexans to ensure fire-resistance performances coupled with reaction to fire properties delaying the propagation of a fire and reducing opaque smoke and corrosive gases. Fire-resistant cables ensure the integrity and continued operation of vital building safety circuits during the critical evacuation and fire fighting periods required by the highest national and international standards. ALSECURE® PREMIUM fire-resistant cables are ideally suited for use with fire detection, emergency lighting, voice alarm and public address systems in office complexes, industrial sites and all public and commercial buildings.
- High flexibility
ALSECURE® PREMIUM is twice as flexible as mica-tape cables. It is easy to bend and shape, even with bare hands. Its bending radius is 15 percent smaller, so it can go around tight corners and fit into confined spaces.
- Easy strippability
ALSECURE® PREMIUM is twice as fast to strip as mica-tape cables, with no need for special tools and without damaging the insulation. It can be handled just like any conventional LV (low voltage) building cable.
- Exceptional strength
The ALSECURE® PREMIUM insulation is three times harder than silicone-insulated cables, so any damage during installation and pulling operations is prevented. This means less waste and a reduced risk of failure during commissioning.
INFIT™ advanced technology
ALSECURE® PREMIUM is based on Nexans’ innovative INFIT™ technology that optimizes the structure and cohesion of cable insulation during a fire of hard grade polymers. This enables the premium cables to combine the rigid and easy to handle surface of traditional XLPE/mica cables with the strippability and easy installation of flexible silicone rubber cables. In the event of a fire, INFIT™ transforms the insulation from a flexible, plastic covering to a tough ceramic layer to assure circuit-integrity (i.e. no breaks or short circuits).
This technology has been developed in the Nexans Research Center based in Lyon, France, by experts specialised in the latest materials science. INFIT™ is a proprietary Nexans technology protected by a dedicated patent portfolio.
ALSECURE® PREMIUM is now available in Switzerland and will then be launched progressively throughout Europe.
