Outdoor sealing ends are available in various technologies for different voltage levels, for synthetic insulated HV cables with a conductor made of copper or aluminum up to 2500 mm2.
All Nexans outdoor sealing ends are equipped with pre-moulded stress cones made of elastomer material.
The creepage distances of the offered insulators correspond to international standards und take in account the various operation conditions. On request outdoor sealing ends with particular characteristics can be designed.
Following types of HV outdoor sealing ends are offered actually by Nexans:
Outdoor sealing end with porcelain insulator Types SOA and TE
The design has a long history and has been used in the past on all voltage levels for paper insulated pressure cables.
As an alternative customers prefer today more and more outdoor sealing ends with an insulator made of synthetic material.
Outdoor sealing end with composite insulator Nexans Type FR
The outdoor sealing end with composite insulator offered by Nexans since 1980 is equipped with a pre-molded elstomeric stress cone and a synthetic housing.
The self supporting tube is made of epoxy resin reinforced with fibre glass and covered by elastomeric (silicone rubber) weather sheds. The tube is terminated at both ends by metallic flanges.
Composite type insulators are a first class alternative to porcelain. Because of their great advantages over conventional ceramic insulating materials, these composite insulators have become established throughout the world for all types of applications.
Advantages:
- Low mass, simplified transport, handling and installation
- No risk of explosion
- Excellent seismic performance
- Small risk of damage during transport and installation as well as in operation
- Excellent performance in case of destruction by bullets (vandalism)
- Excellent pollution performance (new and aged silicone) due to hydrophobic characteristics of silicone rubber
The outdoor sealing ends with composite insulators are filled-up with an insulation fluid (oil or gas).
Outdoor sealing end, dry, slip-on Nexans Type FM
The dry type monobloc sealing end made of silicone rubber material includes the stress cone, the weather sheds and the insulation layer all in one.
A field grading element is inserted in the stress cone part. No oil or gas filling is used in the construction.
A solid clamping of the cable below the sealing end as well as a fixing point at the top bolt, keeps the sealing end in position and guarantees for a safe operation.
If for any reason a self supporting sealing end design is required, the slip-on termination can be equipped with a separate supporting insulator or a self supporting sealing end with composite insulator will have to be used.
The data sheets give all information about the voltage ranges which are covered by the described design.
